This is a 50 cent coin from Italy from 2002.

The Italian coins are minted in the "Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato" in Rome. Already in September 1999 the minting was started, but the coins minted from 1999 to 2002 were provided with the first issue year 2002.

The 50 cent coin has as a motif, the equestrian statue of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius created around 165 with the Capitol pavement by Michelangelo, designed by Roberto Mauri.

The equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius is a larger-than-life bronze statue of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The original location is unknown, but is believed to be in the area of the Lateran. According to medieval sources, a small barbarian figure kneeling in front shops of the horse was part of the statue.
