Moshe Bernstein was born in 1920 in keratosis - Poland (now in South - Western Belarus) . At age 15 he began studying art at the Art Academy in Vilnius , and studied there until 1939. During World War II left the Soviet Union , and in 1947 immigrated to Israel Aliyah Bet (un - immigration ) . His family who remained in Poland , perished in the Holocaust.
With the rise was caught and sent to a detention camp in Cyprus , where he met the painter Naftali Bezem immigrants who came to visit the prisoners in the camp. Album released later prints Bezem activities of the refugees also included Bernstein's linoleum cut .
Moshe Bernstein continued to paint Israel as the Jewish shtetl in Eastern Europe , and could not take his place among the artists of the new Israel . However, in the late 40s to the 70s gained recognition and various exhibitions , including at the Tel Aviv Artists House in Tel Aviv. In 1967 a solo exhibition at the Haifa Museum and in 1973 he had a retrospective exhibition Ein Harod Museum . He also exhibited in various galleries in Tel Aviv.
