A gorgeous, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan on the north coast of Java. Tuli is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.

This batik has a brown and white scattered rice background with a pattern of flowers, plants and an unusual lobster like animal in multiple colours. It is in very good condition on soft cotton A really beautiful batik.

A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is an unusually long batik, 104cm high by 248cm long.
