Very rare vintage ticking fabric in sky blue and white with a Japanese atmosphere motif. It is a European damask fabric from around 1930. This piece, recovered and freshly washed, was part of a mattress cover. This fabric is lightweight cotton. Perfect textile for upholstery projects, cushions, bags, etc. The designs recall the drawings and patterns of French fabrics such as the Toile de Jouy and the Indianas due to the arrangement of the pieces. The motifs are inspired by Japanese designs that influenced so much Art shops Nouveau and Chinoiserie that was so popular throughout the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

CONDITION:
Good condition. Only light wear consistent with age and history but has no structural issues. Faint fading towards the side seams. Authentic hand sewn eyelets. One intact selvage. HISTORY OF TICKING FABRICS: This type of fabrics were used to make mattress covers since 1880. It is a very durable and resistant fabric but at the same time absorbent and breathable. The motifs used are very varied: floral, oriental, country, palatial, or striped and the colors very bright. These fabrics were produced from 1882 to 1980 in the Area of Igualada, known for its textile industry.
