The pearls are so-called Navajo pearls:
Silver necklaces are passed down from generation to generation by the Navajo Indians and the long-standing wearing creates a contrast between the polished areas in the middle and the oxidized ones on the sides of the pearls, this fascinating effect is imitated here.
