Description

Product Name: Five Neanderthal shops Multi-tools 1233

A group of five small Neanderthal multi-tools on flakes from Velleche, near Fontmaure, France. All are made from jasper in excellent condition with beautiful, glossy ground patinas. Legal surface finds, heights between 1 5/8" and 2 1/16" (4.3-5.1cm). A group that again demonstrates the ingenuity of Neanderthal tool makers when it comes to conceptualizing and shops creating small tools, lightweight and easy to carry, that have a multiple range of uses. The lithic to the left is a burin with two converging scraper edges. The other four are examples of multiple scraper edges, serving different functions, on each tool. The lithic on the right also has two burins or borers. Excellent bulb of percussion, indicating where the flake was struck from the mother pebble, on the ventral side of the reddish lithic. Date to 80,000-50,000 BCE.
