Vintage shops Danecraft Sterling RARE Pattern REDUCED Floral Domed Bangle OBSOLETE Bracelet This particularly beautiful and feminine vintage sterling silver bangle is unique in that not only are its domed (rounded exterior) and thicker sides completely covered with its floating, dense, and expansive organic and natural floral pattern, but also the interior of the bangle is as well. This feature, as well as the particularly dense and detailed pattern, reveals the unusually high quality of its craftsmanship. I suspect that the higher manufacturing cost to do this caused Danecraft not to make other patterns with this feature - at least none that I have seen. This would explain why these are becoming so hard to find. Its weight is high for this pattern at 16.5 grams, and it is 1/4 inch (6mm) wide. Its interior diameter is 2.5 inches or 65 mm.
I've noticed a funny thing with these Danecraft bangles. One year a particular pattern will be passed over like last decade's old slippers so will sell for little, then one or two years later it will be the hottest one out there and selling for a fortune. The commonality with such patterns is intrinsic pattern quality and easy accessibility early on. I'm waging that this will become one of those soon as this pattern is exceptional and has not been available....in good condition....since early last year.
As with most fine things we buy, condition is essential. This bracelet is in virtually perfect condition with no problem spots or signs of wear or damage. I say virtually in case you have a microscope. I find it somewhat interesting that four stress holes (I presume) were deemed necessary to have on the inside of this hollow style. This bangle is bright and has a good shine, is not overly oxidized, its pattern is distinct and its tarnishing nicely accents the pattern.
Fit advice for all bangles
The easiest and most accurate way to ensure you will be able to get on a bangle is to make note of the interior diameter (from one side across the middle to the other) of the one you are considering then compare it with either your other bangles or with bangles in a store that have about the same side width. If one is a bit tight to get on, coconut oil is the best for making it slide on smoothly plus it doesn't harm the metal.
HISTORY OF DANECRAFT
Per his niece, Heidi Felch Bennett, in a recent report, James Felch originated the Felch & Co. Jewelry Company in the 1930's and chose Danecraft as his product name shops. Danecraft costume jewelry designs in sterling silver and vermeil (gold-plated sterling) became known for their high quality. They were often dimensional with intricate depictions of nature's beauty or an Art Nouveau, Modernist, or Art Deco influence.
According to the Reference Services Dept.
of the
Providence, RI, Public Library, the first mention of Felch & Co. in a Providence City Directory was in 1938. Following two other locations, from 1942 to 1954 Felch & Co. was located at 25 Bucklin Street in Providence. Ms. Bennett's grandfather, John Felch, was the operations manager and Victor Primavera was hired as a designer and later became a partner. James retired after 1950 and in 1954 he sold his company to Victor Primavera and the “Felch mark” FCO was no longer used.
