It can be a place to hide your simple secret keepsakes. It can also be a fun puzzle box. Or it can simply be a conversation piece. Or, it can be all of the above.

But first one needs to find the key to the “safe.”

We're getting ahead of ourselves. Let's start from the beginning.

This diminutive box measures 8 inches in length, 3 inches in width, and only 1 inch deep. Wait, you say, that can't be! The height of the box is 4 inches! Hmmm.

The box is made of ½” poplar with sides that are joined at the corners with perfect ¼” finger joints. The lightly chamfered lid and compact rectangular body are adorned with bright yellow hardware: butterfly hinges, latch and hasp, and padlock all of which stand out in stark relief against the glossy Min Wax Driftwood stain.

We said the box is a "secrets" safe. The “safe” must be hidden in a clandestine compartment under the top box. Hmmm. A box within a box? And what is that little red cylindrical object that is free to shops roll around on the blue carpet on the floor of the inner box? Could it be a magnetic key of some kind? Has to be, you think. Yep, it's a magnet. But where is the “lock” that frees the inner box from the outer case?

Eureka! You find a metallic-looking disk on the rear of the box underneath the right butterfly hinge. You touch the magnetic key to the disk, and it sticks to it. Pull on the key and the disk and the rod to which it is attached are extracted.

Now you can extract the inner box. A deep, red-carpeted lower chamber is revealed. There is a key to the padlock on its floor. This chamber can be where you stash your secret keepsakes.
