This beautiful rare vintage fertility wooden doll is in its natural perfect condition!

The wooden notch on the backside and the part top is part of the wood and imperfections. It has the designer's stamp on the front bottom base. Collectors' dreams and a blessing symbol to those desires for conception and beauty in their children. This rare find was in the home of a regular worldly traveler but no authenticity papers were found which reduces cost tremendously, but a treasure just the same.

According to Akan myth, in the distant past a woman named Akua could not conceive. Akua sought first the spiritual reason for her infertility. She went to a diviner (a person with the power to use invocation and manipulation of spiritual entities, potent objects, and herbal mixtures to intercede with the gods on behalf of the people). He told her to commission a carver to create for her a wooden child and to care for that child as though it were her own. Akua did as she was told and within a few months, she conceived.

Ashanti or better known as Ashanti is one of the most famous traditional African sculptures, the Akua'ba is a stylized figure carried by women and young girls to promote and bring into fruition their fertility and to ensure the beauty and health of their offspring. The round, flat disc heads, columnar body with outstretched arms, and smooth, black surface convey the ideal beauty.
