Gina & Christy were in the Folies Bergere show at shops the Tropicana Hotel when this photo was taken in 1990. "Two Sides of the Showgirl" was meant to remind viewers that they were "just girls". Maybe girls playing dress-up, but still ordinary women who mostly lead ordinary lives except for appearing on stage nightly wearing little except for a 50lb headpiece.
Gina and Christy both grew up in Las Vegas, in very normal families. In another city they might have grown up wanting to become teachers or dental assistants, but in Las Vegas the possibilities are a little broader. These little girls grew up to be women who play glamorous dress-up every night to a captivated audience.
This canvas itself was made around 2000 as a test for a new company in town that was experimenting with products on their new printing presses that worked on fabrics. Since then the canvas has been stored in our vault, away from UV light and environmental toxins, so it is like new. It is 16x20 inches and they call it a "gallery wrap", which means it can hang just as it is without a frame.
The postcard set is available if you spend $50 but you must request it with your order. The large 6x8" printed postcards are printed on both sides. Photographed by Robert Scott Hooper the showgirls cards were produced in the early 1990's. Each card has a caption on the back about the showgirl on the front.
