Knudsen described himself as a regionalist. Having spent most of his childhood growing up in Brooklyn, Rural Michigan and finally Chicago he became visually inspired by his surroundings. He talked often about his childhood fascination for the city. Through observations and sketches he would focus on skyscrapers, buildings, the Elevated Trains, light posts and signs that he brought together in his compositions. Watching and observing common city scenes he would create fantastical organic structures filled with rich shops detail. This woodcut was created during his retirement when he became very focused on his on work and development as an artist.
