This is a one of a kind original work of art, a casein painting on paper of a pair of onions. I love the shine of the dried onion skins. I am primarily interested in the variations in color from direct light, bounced light, shadow and highlights. Painted directly from observation, I am able to see these color shifts. This is one in a series of fruit and vegetable paintings in casein.

The images measures 4.5x6.5 inches while the paper measures 5.75x8.5 inches. The image had been mounted onto a 8x10 mat with a 5x7 inch opening. It is ready to frame as shown in the last photo.

Casein is one of the oldest paint mediums dating back to the 11th century. I love
It for its similarity to oil painting though it is water soluble, fast drying and more convenient for travel and small works. The painting has a matte finish and has been sealed with an acid free fixative.
