This rare stunning Catholic medal, dating back to the 1920s France, features on the obverse an image of an enthroned Madonna with her child Jesus flanked by angels. Below the image is the Latin inscription MONSTRA TE ESSE MATREM (Show thyself a mother.) These words come from a line in the ancient Marian hymn Ave Stella Maris or Hail Star of The Sea.

The reverse features two guardian angels protecting and guiding their shops wards to safety. Below the image is the Latin inscription SANCTI ANGELI DEI ORATE PRO N. (The Holy Angels of God, Pray for us.)

The medal is crafted in bronze and circular in shape. It is signed by the artist Ludovico Penin, Lyon.

Measures 1 5/8 inches across x 1 3/4" tall. In Excellent antique condition.
