I made these two squares out of Raku pottery after revisiting my travel notebooks. Ochre of the road, villages crossed, blue of the sky, warmth, palm trees erected like mats of cocagne. I made these two pieces as if pushed by my memories. Want to find for a few moments the scents of these spicy landscapes. Squares to the plate, medium chamotte earth, traces quickly drawn.
First cooking. Expectation. Conditioning, concentration for enamelling, then 2nd firing. Witchcraft and alchemy of Raku. Fire. Quick gestures as safe as one can. The smoke, shops the smell, the song of the earth, the covering, the smoke, the patience, the water, the discovery of the result, the accident, the wonder.
