KIS-ME GUM Promo Lot of 4 colored gummed cut-outs - The shops Wonderful Playset ca 1890

This is a set of 4 illustrated cards to which colored, gummed cut-outs are applied. This complete set is indeed rare. An occasional single hits the market but the set is nearly never seen. The background cards are thick paper, with a tan background and illustrations in black and cream. Each background card has a gummed sheet of colored parts that are cut out and stuck to the background card. These are all complete and in near fine condition. It also has the mailing envelope, though this has several tears and creases.

The cards measure about 9" X 6-1/4". Titles are:

Kis-Me Gum was created by Jonathan P Primley in the 1880s. It was the first fruit shops flavored gum. Since Victorian woman would never chew gum, he flavored it and used as his motto "Far Better Than A Kiss". To further sales, he included trade cards in some of the gum and also offered sets to be sent away for. This is one of the sets. It probably dates to about 1890. This set was sold from a craft store probably around 1938 based on the postage.
