James Lumbers is one of Canada's most respected and successful artists. His wilderness landscapes, nostalgic images of Canada's past, and inspiring portraits are part of private art, prints and posters collections around the world. Born in Toronto in 1929, and a graduate of the Ontario College of Art, James worked as an industrial and corporate artist until 1970, when he joined an expedition to Canada's far north. The experience changed his life.
The style of painting that brought international recognition to Lumbers all started on a summer afternoon some years ago. When sketching an abandoned house on an island in The Georgian Bay, he found a diary with some photo negatives tucked inside it. Some months later, he printed these negatives and found that someone had photographed the family sitting on the same porch as in his sketch. The diary documented that the pictures were taken in 1913. It was this event that launched a series of paintings that is still ongoing today and called “Moments in Time”.
My six degrees of separation with the artist is one of his neighbors being friends with James and where some of my pictures came from.
This is an authorized reproduction with a sticker on the back displayed as 1/100. This small lithograph is rare because it's one of the first that the artist commissioned for reproductions.
