French Antique Oil Painting of Chateau and Church, Boats on the River and Countryside Scene, 1947

A pretty antique French Oil painting depicting what is probably part of a chateau with its little church and boats on the river. It is a pretty countryside scene. The colors are gorgeous, the blue of the sky and the green of the trees and the stone of the chateau tower and church work really well together. There is one little sail boat in the distance that is so well painted. I think it has been very well painted. There is a signature and a date at the bottom left corner. I think the date is 1947 but it is difficult to read as there is some paint missing in this area.

This scene is painted on a canvas. There are trace of age and some little areas where the paint is cracking or missing at the edges. there is a couple of areas of tiny pin holes in a few areas but you can only see them when you hold the painting up to the light. Gentle traces of time and dust.

H: 49.5cm x W: 61.4cm = 19.5" x 24.2" approx
