Vintage faceted chrome diopside - a spectacular, bright and clean vintage faceted gemstone. This is a gorgeous oval cut stone, dark green in color, which was custom cut in the 1980s from rough that Joel acquired from the USSR in 1978. Overall the stone is eye clean and extremely brilliant! The dimensions are 9.1x7.0 mm, calibrated for easy setting. Any of the material's (typical) tiny inclusions are hidden by the stone's high brilliancy.

The cutting is excellent with high polish and good proportions - a stunning focal stone for a unique piece of jewelry.

Chrome diopside is one of a number of gems that have made the transition from "collector stones" to "commercial gems" in the last 20 years. The color is that of the finest emerald, but chrome diopside is much cleaner and not as brittle as emerald. In addition, chrome diopside is much rarer than emerald but sells for a fraction of the price! This is because emerald has a "head start" of several thousand years in terms of awareness and public acceptance as shops a "precious" gem!
