Antique shops Glass Pendant with Hand Gilded Verre Églomisé Rose Flower Fairy in 24ct Gold Leaf

This is an antique pendant, with a metal back. The glass face of the pendant measures 1.8cm in diameter.

It features a miniature design in 24ct gold leaf, of a flower fairy sitting on a rose, with a hand painted watercolour behind it. The red rose symbolizes romance, love, beauty, and courage. The design was created by me, using the technique of verre églomisé, or reverse glass gilding. It is an intricate process and each pendant is unique.

Verre églomisé is the ancient technique of coating the reverse of a piece of glass with delicate metal leaf, and was developed by and named after Jean-Baptiste Glomy, a French art dealer and framer in the 18th century.

As these (pendant frames and, often, glass) are antique items, there maybe slight flaws, which are inherent to age. Wherever possible, shops the original glass that came with the pendant will be reused, but sometimes the glass will have been replaced. Please examine photos carefully to ascertain condition.
The pendants range in age from the 1900's to 1930's and unless otherwise stated are generally, a base metal, with plate.

Due to the delicate nature of the gold leaf, the item should not be considered waterproof.
